Cut tempo-locked loops from any song (or its stems), paste them into
Session or Arrangement, and turn them into MIDI. A Max for Live audio effect.

WHAT'S IN HERE

Chopsmith.amxd The device (an audio effect). This one file is all
                          you need.
Chopsmith Remote.amxd Optional. A MIDI effect: pads C1-D#2 on any
                          controller press Chopsmith's buttons.
  Read Me.txt This file.
Licence Agreement.txt The terms you use Chopsmith under (and the 14-day
                          refund).
Privacy.txt What Chopsmith sends (only a licence check) and
                          keeps on your Mac.

YOU NEED

  - A Mac (Apple silicon or Intel)
  - Ableton Live 12.4 or later with Max for Live (Live Suite, or Live
Standard with the Max for Live add-on)
  - For the stem features: Live's "Separate Stems to New Audio Tracks"

INSTALL

Quickest: drag Chopsmith.amxd from Finder onto any audio track in Live.

To have it in Live's browser (recommended), copy it into your User Library:
    Chopsmith.amxd        ->  User Library/Presets/Audio Effects/Max Audio Effect/
    Chopsmith Remote.amxd ->  User Library/Presets/MIDI Effects/Max MIDI Effect/
(The User Library is in ~/Music/Ableton/ unless you've moved it. In Live:
Settings > Library shows where.) Then find it under Max for Live in the
  browser.

ACTIVATE

The first time Chopsmith loads, the Chopsmith Licence window opens. Paste
the licence key from your purchase email (it starts CHOPSMITH-) and press
Activate. That's it: Chopsmith works offline from then on.

Until it's activated Chopsmith is a demo: everything reads, plays and
auditions, but Paste, Export and To MIDI ask for the key. Pressing one of
them opens the licence window again.

One key works on up to 3 Macs. To move it to a new Mac, open the customer
portal link in your purchase email, deactivate the old Mac there, then
  activate on the new one.

QUICK START

  1. Put Chopsmith on an audio track that has a song clip on it (or press
Drop and drop an audio file onto it).
  2. Chopsmith reads the song: tempo, key and its sections. Check that 1.1.1
sits on a downbeat (Set 1.1.1, or the arrows beside it).
  3. Pick a loop length (1/16 to 8 bars) and click the waveform. Best >
jumps between loops that repeat cleanly.
  4. Audition plays the loop in time with your set.
  5. Paste puts it into a Session slot or the Arrangement, warped and
looping. To MIDI turns it into a MIDI clip (drums, bass, melody or
     chords).

  6. Press EDITOR (above the waveform). Don't skip this one: it opens a big
window with six tabs, where most of Chopsmith lives: Favorites, Best
(the cleanest loops, ranked), Sections (the song's form, and Sketch, a
draft arrangement in one click), Crate (a folder of songs, sorted by
how well they fit your set), Mashup (loops from other songs whose
chords fit) and History (undo). Its ? button opens the full guide.

Stems: run Live's Create > Separate Stems to New Audio Tracks on the song,
then pick Drums, Bass, Vocals or Others in Chopsmith's Stem menu.
